'I'm grateful': Liverpool star shares CLEAR message on his future

Joe Gomez has shared a clear message on his Liverpool future ahead of the summer. The defender has been linked with a move away.

Joe Gomez has gave an interview to The Anfield Wrap this week and the big takeaway is that he looks set to stay at Liverpool. Or at least, that's how he hopes things go.

We exclusively revealed earlier this month that Gomez was open to leaving Liverpool. While he would never actively push for the move, he'd want the club to listen to any offers coming in.

But his interview with the Anfield Wrap certainly makes it clear that he wants to stay.

“Being here this many years it’s only grown over time making me realise how special it is here," said Gomez.

“Speaking to some of the boys that have moved on and them emphasising how good of a place this. I guess sometimes having something to compare it to helps, but I’m just grateful to be here and long may it continue.”

'Long may it continue'

Of course, things can change and Gomez could well see things differently down the line. As things stand, though, it appears he wishes to remain at Anfield beyond this season.

Now, one way of looking at this is that staying would be Gomez's preferred option but that involves assurances over playing time under Arne Slot. If he doesn't receive those, then he may not want to continue at Liverpool.

But it feels almost impossible to predict what's to come. Slot could completely fall in love with Gomez as a player - or he could decide he'd merely sit on the fringes at Anfield.

The pecking order at centre-back, in particular, isn't clear. Virgil van Dijk being no.1 certainly is, but Jarell Quansah was his preferred partner by the end of Jurgen Klopp's reign.

Where does that leave Ibrahima Konaté and Gomez? Hopefully, we can find out before too long.
