Liverpool willing to 'COMPROMISE' on transfer fee for important 27-year-old

Liverpool are willing to 'compromise' on the price tag they have set for key defender Joe Gomez this summer, according to one journalist.

Previous reports have suggested that Gomez would be open to an Anfield exit before the transfer window closes, even if he's not interested in forcing a move elsewhere.

It was also revealed recently that Gomez was someone Liverpool were willing to offload as part of a deal to bring Anthony Gordon to Anfield from Newcastle United, although a move never materialised.

Therefore, the versatile defender is evidently not a player the Reds would refuse to part ways with this summer and there are likely a number of top clubs that would be interested in signing the 27-year-old.

In negotiations with Newcastle over Gordon, it was reported that Liverpool valued Gomez at £45m. However, one journalist believes that they would perhaps be willing to lower that price tag.

LIVERPOOL WILLING TO NEGOTIATE FOR JOE GOMEZ

According to Liverpool reporter David Lynch, the Reds are not against selling Gomez this summer and would perhaps be willing to compromise on the fee they receive for the Englishman due to his loyal years of service on Merseyside.

Writing about Gomez's future, Lynch stated (via Anfield Sector): "Liverpool are understood to be prepared to compromise to some degree on the fee for Joe Gomez given his years of service.

"He won't be given away, so the ball is firmly in the court of suitors."

Gomez is Liverpool's longest-serving first-team player having joined the club from Charlton Athletic all the way back in 2015 and he has gone on to make 224 appearances for the the Reds.

However, there remain question marks over Gomez's best position. Traditionally a centre-back, he has also been deployed as a full-back regularly, arguably the position he suits most.

It remains to be seen what new head coach Arne Slot thinks of Gomez given he is yet to join up with the Reds for pre-season, but a summer exit certainly seems a possibility for the defender.

Gomez would be able to raise significant funds for the Reds that could perhaps be invested elsewhere, with Liverpool already well-stocked at full-back and on the right-hand side of central defence.
