Liverpool FC News Recap: Van Dijk illness latest, FA Cup draw details and Reds eye Salah successor

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted that he was hopeful that he would be able to call on the services of captain Virgil van Dijk for Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham.

The Dutchman missed Sunday's FA Cup third-round victory over Arsenal because of illness, despite having travelled to the capital with the rest of the squad.

Jarell Quansah took the 32-year-old's place in the heart of the Reds defence alongside Ibrahima Konate and put in an excellent performance as the side earned a clean sheet in a 2-0 win.

'The real Luis Diaz is back' - and he could be perfect Salah replacement

Liverpool's electrifying 2-0 FA Cup victory over Arsenal on Sunday didn't just mark progress to the fourth round for the Reds, but for former Reds vice-captain Jamie Carragher, it also signalled the return to form of Colombian winger Luis Diaz.

In the gripping showdown at the Emirates, Diaz played a pivotal role in both of Liverpool's goals. First, he created chaos in Arsenal's defence with an attempted header from Trent Alexander-Arnold's delivery, leading to an own goal by Jakub Kiwior; then, he sealed the win in stoppage time with a stunning finish to round off a swift counter-attacking move.

When Liverpool will discover their FA Cup fourth-round opponents

Liverpool are into the FA Cup fourth round after taking advantage of Arsenal's wastefulness to beat the Gunners 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

After an end-to-end contest that saw the hosts miss a plethora of big chances, it was a Jakub Kiwior own goal that broke the deadlock for the 10 minutes from time, diverting a whipped Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick into his own net to give the visiting Reds a precious lead.

Luis Diaz sealed the win in injury time, firing into the top-right corner as Jurgen Klopp's side pounced on the break.

Fabio Carvalho receiving heavy interest from Premier League clubs

Fabio Carvalho has been subject to numerous approaches from both Premier League and Championship clubs after he was recalled from RB Leipzig at the end of December.

The Daily Mail claim that Wolves are interested in bringing Carvalho in on loan, after in was deemed by Liverpool that another spell away would be most valuable for the Portuguese prospect.

Fulham are also reportedly interested in bringing back their academy product, whom Liverpool signed from the Cottagers in the summer of 2022.

Interest also comes from the Championship, with the Mail reporting that Leeds, Southampton and Hull City are all keen to bring in the 21-year-old.

Trent Alexander-Arnold hails Klopp genius in Arsenal win

Liverpool’s dramatic 2-0 win against Arsenal in the FA Cup was thanks in no small part to a masterstroke by coach Jurgen Klopp - that's according to his vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Despite having to absorb persistent pressure from the Gunners throughout the match, Liverpool secured their spot in the fourth round thanks to a Jakub Kiwior own goal and a decisive strike by Luis Diaz in the closing minutes.

That said, the Reds were fairly anonymous in the first half from an attacking perspective - but that all changed after the break thanks to some strategic adjustments that eventually shaped the remarkable victory.
