Liverpool beat Wolves

Liverpool overcame Wolves at Molineux on Saturday evening to climb to the top of the Premier League. The Reds went 1-0 up through a brilliant Ibrahima Konaté header, with Diogo Jota supplying an equally wonderful cross.

Konaté, however, was to blame for the home side's equaliser. He got into a mess near his goal, allowing for an easy finish.

But Jota immediately made things happen once again, forcing a penalty with his movement. Mo Salah stepped up to dispatch it and the Reds held on for the win.

Kareem Ahmed shines for U18s

Rio Ngumoha made his first start for Liverpool Under 18s on Saturday but was outshone by an outstanding teammate.

All eyes were on Rio Ngumoha on Saturday as Liverpool Under 18s hosted Newcastle United. The youngster has an incredible amount of hype around him since his arrival from Chelsea, with just about everyone expecting him to make the grade at Anfield.

But Ngumoha wasn't the star of the show for Liverpool here. Instead, Kareem Ahmed took the headlines with a wonderful display despite the Reds going down 3-2 at home.

Ahmed, though, was outstanding. He scored both Liverpool goals and was brutally unfortunate not to get a hattrick - a fine save from a fantastic strike kept him out.

The winger was on task to capitalise on Viktor Johansson's parry and tap into an empty net to break the deadlock at the Riverside Stadium.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I answered the video call. I nearly dropped the phone,” Hodgson told The Athletic, “There was Lucho looking at me saying: ‘I just want to say thank you so much for the song, much love’.

Slot on Kelleher

Usually, your manager praising your performance is cause for celebration.

But if you wanted to leave a club so that you were no longer a second choice because you believed you play well enough to start - and then get praised for exactly that reason - well there’s a chance it could sting.

That is exactly what has happened to Caoimhin Kelleher this past week. The Irish shot-stopper was brought in in lieu of the injured Alisson Becker - much like he was 18 times last season.

When asked about his goalkeeper situation and Kelleher’s performances in the past week against Bournemouth and West Ham at his pre-match press conference, new manager Arne Slot was grateful.
