Liverpool FC News Recap: Mo Salah's return, Leverkusen scouting mission & Sven gets wish

Mohamed Salah appears poised for a return to action as the Reds gear up to face Brentford this Saturday.

The Egypt captain was spotted taking part in team training at Liverpool's AXA Training Centre base in Kirkby on Tuesday — normally a sign of a full recovery from injury.

The side's top goalscorer has been missing from club action since the New Year's Day win over Newcastle United due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, where he sustained a muscle injury against Ghana.

Jurgen Klopp revealed last week that Salah had been pushing for a return to action, while three more previously absent players were also spotted back at the training ground on Tuesday in a boost to the first-team squad.

Left-sided defender Hincapie has long been known as Liverpool target, with Anfield Watch reporting last month that the Reds' enquired about the 21-year-old Ecuadorian during the January window, but were knocked back.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old attacker Wirtz is viewed as one of Europe's most exciting young talents.

HITC's report adds that the scouts were also looking at Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala, who is 'liked' by Liverpool.

In the days following the news, he stated to the press that he was a lifelong Liverpool supporter and "always wished to be the manager of Liverpool", a destiny that sadly looked to remain unfulfilled.

However, following a campaign to make a lifelong dream come true, Eriksson has been confirmed as part of the coaching team for the Reds' upcoming Legends clash.

In addition to the Swede, the Liverpool Legends’ management team on March 23, will include Reds favourites Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge.

Barça rule out move for Liverpool-linked manager

Barcelona sporting director Deco has all but ruled out Ruben Amorim from taking over from Xavi once the Barca manager leaves at the end of the season, in a boost to Liverpool’s hopes of landing the Portuguese manager.

Amorim, 39, is the current Sporting SP head coach and won the side’s first Primeira Liga title for 19 years back in 2021. He has also added two Portuguese cups to his trophy haul in Lisbon.

The former midfielder had been mentioned as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool as well as for Xavi, who has announced that he will be stepping down from his role in Barcelona at the end of the current campaign.

However, Nou Camp chief Deco has played down talk of a move for the coach who has a €20m release clause, due to a lack of experience.

All Liverpool managerial candidates lack experience, says former Red

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has claimed there is no candidate who 'ticks all the boxes' to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner to take over for the 2024/25 campaign, with the 42-year-old Spaniard the favourite among both the bookies and fans.

Alonso is currently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, who are unbeaten at the top of the Bundesliga and cemented their title credentials with an impressive 3-0 win over Bayern Munich on Saturday — a game Liverpool scouts reportedly attended.

However, while Murphy is backing Alonso to get the job, he isn't convinced any candidate has the requisite experience to replace Klopp.

He said: "I think in an ideal world you’d want a manager coming in to Liverpool to take over Jurgen Klopp to have a bigger body of work, even if he [Alonso] wins it [the Bundesliga]

"Because like any footballer, you can have a purple patch, a wonderful season or two."
