Liverpool FC News Recap: Ward RETURNS, Klopp's REGRET & Kudus PRICE TAG

Liverpool's former sporting director Julian Ward has returned to the club as Fenway Sports Group's new technical director.

Ward, who left Liverpool in 2023 to take a break from football, has rejected plenty of offers from across Europe since being out of the game, but has been convinced to return to Anfield by FSG's CEO of Football Michael Edwards, according to The Athletic.

Ward's duties will include 'overseeing player development' and 'oversight of Liverpool's academy and FSG's loan department'. He will work alongside current sporting director Richard Hughes.

Liverpool have also hired Benfica's technical director Pedro Marques as the club's director of football development, with both him and Ward starting their new roles on Saturday 1 June.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that one of his only regrets this season is not playing Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott more often.

The 21-year-old dazzled in the 4-2 win over Tottenham last weekend, scoring and assisting in an all-action display, and has been an important member of Liverpool's first-team squad this term.

His significance has not been lost on Klopp who has often relied on the former Fulham man's contributions from the bench, but the 56-year-old has admitted that Elliott probably should have started more matches.

"It’s not like this where I go back and think what did I do wrong here or there, but if I regret one thing it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough maybe [this season]," said the German.

Liverpool have learned the mammoth asking price of West Ham star and rumoured transfer target Mohammed Kudus.

The Reds have been linked with the Ghanaian forward this summer as they explore the market and it's been reported that the 23-year-old has a release clause in his current deal.

According to a new report from Claret & Hugh, Liverpool would have to splash £85m on the former Ajax star this summer, although there are several conditions regarding that release clause.

Jurgen Klopp has rebuffed reports suggesting that Darwin Nunez will leave Liverpool this summer, while claiming the Uruguayan has a good 'problem'.

The former Benfica forward has been linked with an Anfield exit in the coming transfer window, with Barcelona among the potential suitors.

However, Klopp has rubbished such talk, while also identifying what Nunez's problem is on Merseyside.

"His problem is that he’s that good that he is constantly in these moments [where he misses], so obviously if he was a little bit less good he would not have chances and people would just say, ‘He is not great,' said Klopp.

Pepe Reina

Former Liverpool star Pepe Reina admits he was left aghast at the British weather after first completing his transfer from Villarreal back in 2005.

The Spaniard came in to replace Champions League hero Jerzy Dudek, going on to spend eight seasons as first-choice at Anfield.

However, he expressed his doubts about the move to his wife Yolanda after finalising his move from the sunny Castellon region of Spain.

"I spent two weeks looking at my wife and saying: 'What is this?',” he told La Liga World.
