Liverpool FC news recap: Gomez EXIT, Nike CONTROVERSY, Osimhen WANTED

Here’s our Liverpool FC news recap for Thursday 2nd May. Joe Gomez could leave the club at the end of the season.

Plenty to recap on Thursday as a few bits dropped. Notably, Liverpool announced their new kit - but not without controversy. Fans aren't happy with prices, but the club are adamant that they're not to blame.

There's plenty of transfer talk, too - you can tell the window is getting closer. Both exits and incomings are being reported as Liverpool prepare for a massive summer.

Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Thursday.

Liverpool's planned defensive rebuild this summer might have just become a little more complicated.

Joel Matip is set to depart this summer after eight seasons with the Reds when his contract comes to an end. As a result, a centre back was no doubt already on the agenda for incoming sporting director Richard Hughes.

However, more defensive reinforcements could now be needed. Anfield Watch understands Joe Gomez is open to a fresh challenge and while he isn't looking to force a move, the 26-year-old has made it known that he would like the club to listen to any reasonable offers.

Liverpool blame Nike over kit prices

Liverpool claim Nike are to blame for the controversy around their new kit for the 2024/25 campaign. The Reds feel they have proof, too.

Liverpool announced their new kit for the 2024/25 season on Thursday. However, whether the kit is actually nice or not wasn't the top of discussion in the wake of that announcement.

Instead, people talked about the price - and with good reason.

Antonio shares Salah / Klopp gossip

Jurgen Klopp, Mo Salah - Liverpool vs West Ham United

Michail Antonio was a goalscorer during West Ham 2-2 Liverpool, a result which further pierced the Reds’ slim hopes of giving Klopp a second league title of his reign.

He confirms there were words between the pair and claimed that at one stage the 56-year-old even threated to send his star forward back to the bench for a perceived lack of respect.

Salah has been off the boil in recent weeks and, presumably, had been unhappy at starting from the bench against the Hammers and even less satisfied with only getting around 10 minutes to turn the tie around.

Talk that Diaz could leave

LUIS DIAZ of Liverpool, vs Atalanta

There’s reportedly talk openly at Liverpool’s training ground that one star could leave in the summer transfer window.

The Liverpool Echo reports that there's open talk at Liverpool's training ground that Luis Diaz could leave the club. Diaz has been lightly linked with a move away for some time now.

The primary reason for that, though, is Diaz's father. He's publicly talked about transfers to Barcelona or Madrid, even claiming that his son is a Barca fan.

Osimhen wanted at Anfield

Victor Osimhen Napoli Liverpool FC Transfer Rumours

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to Liverpool FC as a potential replacement for Mo Salah (IMAGO).

Liverpool reportedly feel they might have found the ‘right’ striker to lead them forward in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on a new striker. They want a no.9 who can lead the line with consistent goalscoring - something they've sorely lacked in the last few weeks.

That's according to Corriere dello Sport, anyway. The Italian outlet now names Liverpool among a series of clubs hoping to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
