Liverpool FC News: Michael Owen names DREAM forward signing this summer
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has named the player he would love the Reds to sign this summer should one of their star forwards leave the club.
Liverpool have been linked with bolstering their forward line in the current transfer window despite the fact that they have some impressive options in the final third.
Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are all still available to Arne Slot, with youngsters such as Ben Doak and Jayden Danns having impressed in the academy.
However, there have been plenty of reports suggesting that Liverpool may lose one of their attackers this summer - most probably Diaz.
The Colombia international has been strongly linked with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, and it's believed that the Reds would consider a £50m+ offer for the 27-year-old.
Of course, while almost certain to stay for the 2024/25 season, Salah's contract also expires next summer.
With that in mind, ex-Liverpool star Owen revealed who he would choose as Liverpool's next forward signing should one of their aces leave Anfield in the near future.
MICHAEL OWEN NAMES JARROD BOWEN AS 'FAVOURITE'
Speaking with Prime Casino, Owen revealed that West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen would be his ideal replacement for any of Liverpool's departing forwards.
"The Mo Salah chat has sort of faded a little bit so I'd be surprised if he left Liverpool, but the problem for the club is that he hasn’t got long left on his contract so you have to make a decision one way or the other," said the Ballon d'Or winner.
"They have great options at the moment with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, but if one of them left then Jarrod Bowen would be my favourite."
However, Owen believes a deal for Bowen would be difficult to pull off, while his age may make him an unlikely Liverpool signing.
"He has signed a long-term contract at West Ham and he might even be their captain," Owen admitted.
"He also isn’t 19 so when you talk about a long-term replacement, you’re looking at players that might give you 10 years and not be in their 30s in two or three years. I’m not sure clubs want to spend 10s and 10s of millions on those players nowadays."
Bowen was someone that former manager Jurgen Klopp labelled his 'favourite player' outside of the Liverpool squad last season, with the England international scoring in all three appearances with the Reds in 2023/24.
