WATCH: Jordan Henderson faces brutal questioning from interviewer after 'worst' Ajax display

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was part of an awkward interview exchange following his Ajax's side's 2-2 draw with Fortuna Sittard.

Henderson's Ajax were held to a 2-2 draw at home to mid-table opposition on Sunday and needed a late Brian Brobbey equaliser to earn their point.

The latest result in a patch of mixed form for Ajax, leaves them in fifth in the table, six points off the Europa League qualification spot in the Eredivisie.

Henderson, whose January arrival from Al Ettfiaq was seen as a coup for the Dutch side by many, registered an assist at the weekend but his overall performance against Fortuna Sittard drew criticism.

Speaking to ESPN in the tunnel after the final whistle, the 33-year-old who captained Liverpool for eight years was asked: "Was this the worst game of the season since you are here and maybe your worst performance?'

An unimpressed looking Henderson smirked before responding: "No, because we didn't lose as you've just asked us before the camera came on."

After admitting it was a tough game, Henderson was then asked if thought he played too many "square balls" by the interviewer.

"We could've penetrated more, if that's what you mean," Henderson replied as he tried to stay composed in the face of the direct line of questioning.

"Overall, you're right, the performance could have been a lot better, should have been better, but like I said, when you don't perform well you keep going right until the end and we didn't lose the game."

At the end of the exchange, the interviewer ups the cringe level by asking: "Can I call it a poor performance?"

To which Henderson responds: "You can call it what you want."

Difficult start

The former Liverpool man has made seven appearances for Ajax since his January move, registering one assist (in the draw with Fortuna Sittard) but winning just once to date.

Back in February, former Ajax star Rafael Van der Vaart slammed Henderson's signing on Dutch TV.

"Ajax have brought in players with zero quality. The club will now have to see out the rest of the season," he said.

"They have brought in Jordan Henderson. All he does is to play a little pass out wide, or a little pass back., but nobody will be happy with that."
