Federico Chiesa has been told three things he must now do in order to make it as a Liverpool player. Arne Slot has made things perfectly clear.

Federico Chiesa made his first start for Liverpool on Wednesday as he lined up in the EFL Cup against West Ham United at Anfield. The Italian has had a lot of hype around him since arriving from Juventus and fans were finally able to see what it's all about.

Chiesa showed that off in flashes, looking to force moments in the attacking third. He was successful, too, as he picked up the assist for Diogo Jota's equaliser.

In all, it was hit-and-miss. Chiesa certainly has the ability and drive to make it at Anfield and this was a positive start, but there's more to come.

Arne Slot made that perfectly clear after the full-time whistle, handing Chiesa three things he must now do to build on his debut.

"Federico Chiesa has to get used to the club, he has to get used to his teammates, he has to just get used to the playing style," said Slot, per Fabrizio Romano.

"But very good to see how match fit he already is, so we can use him when we need him".

Federico Chiesa is ready

That match fitness is a massive bonus - and a surprise. Chiesa didn't have a pre-season with Juventus and it wasn't expected that he'd be fit to play with any regularity for a little while.

Instead, he's pretty much good to go and that is something no one really saw coming. Especially after his previous injury problems.

But there's every expectation for Chiesa to feature again this weekend when Liverpool play Wolves, and likely against Bologna, too. The forward is quickly becoming a useful member of the squad - and that's well ahead of schedule.
