Here is your Liverpool FC news recap from a busy Monday 29 July. Both Fabio Carvalho and Conor Bradley have opened up on new boss Arne Slot, while Harvey Elliott has had his say on his preferred England manager.

FABIO CARVALHO DISAGREES WITH ARNE SLOT

Fabio Carvalho has revealed that he DISAGREES with new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot over his best position in the team after featuring at left wing over the weekend.

The 21-year-old is looking to impress in this pre-season after he was unable to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans last season.

He was sent for a loan spell in Germany with RB Leipzig, which didn’t go well due to a lack of game time, and then another loan with Hull City in the second half of the campaign.

Carvalho started Liverpool’s first USA pre-season game against Real Betis on the left flank, with the player disagreeing with his new boss over where he is best deployed.

Speaking about what Slot told him the former Fulham man said: “We spoke and he told me to try and settle on the wing but obviously I know where I play best and I feel that is as a No.10."

The Liverpool midfielder has shone under Carsley's tutelage with the under-21 side, winning the European Championships back in 2023.

Since the under-21 Euros, Elliott has been particularly impressive under Carsley, scoring seven times and registering four assists in his last six outings with the Three Lions.

Southgate was hired as England boss eight years ago and was also appointed following a spell with the under-21 side, with Elliott backing Carsley to have a similar impact with the senior squad should he be promoted.

Asked whether he thought Carsley could succeed with England's first-team, Elliott replied (as per the Daily Mail): "Absolutely. Lee is an unbelievable manager and an unbelievable guy. He is ready to step up. There have been a lot of big clubs sniffing around him and that is credit to himself and his coaching.

"Whenever I step on the pitch for England I just have freedom to enjoy my football. I feel like he is ready. They are conversations for them [at the FA]."

The Red Devils went all out to bring the 18-year-old centre-back to the club from Ligue 1 side Lille. They spent €62 million on the youngster even though he only had one year left on his contract.

Liverpool deemed the deal to be too expensive hence why they took a step back from the transfer battle.

Some fans were disappointed that Liverpool failed to take full advantage when Real Madrid declined to go for Yoro. He is certainly viewed as a player who is good enough for the present and is expected to be one of the best in the future.

However, Manchester United already have an issue to deal with as Yoro went off injured in his first pre-season game.

The defender only lasted 34 minutes of their 2-1 friendly defeat to Arsenal on Saturday night, which leaves Erik ten Hag in some trouble when it comes to his defence.

CONOR BRADLEY EXPLAINS ARNE SLOT TACTICAL DIFFERENCE

The Dutch coach has been working with his new squad ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign, even if some Reds are yet to report back for pre-season duty as they recover from international tournaments.

The Reds have travelled to the United States for a pre-season tour and kicked off their American adventure with the first win of the Slot era on 27 July against Real Betis.

Slot is known to be a tactical innovator and Reds right-back Bradley has been discussing the differences between the 45-year-old and his predecessor Klopp.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the Northern Irishman claimed that there are not major stylistic changes between Slot and Klopp, but the Reds now build attacks in a slightly different way under the former Feyenoord boss.

"Just probably a bit more structure in the build-up phase," admitted Bradley when quizzed about the tactical difference between Slot and Klopp.

"Obviously out of the ball it's quite similar – we still want to press when we lose the ball, we still want it back as quick as we can."
