Liverpool will see a current player replace a former one as Gareth Southgate announces his provisional England squad for Euro 2024.

David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson won't be in Gareth Southgate's provisional England squad this summer. That squad should be announced later today.

Henderson has been a controversial addition in recent times, ever since leaving Liverpool for AL-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. He's now with Ajax, of course.

But it seems Southgate is ready to move on and Henderson won't be going to Euro 2024. Instead, a former Liverpool teammate takes his place.

Curtis Jones is now set for his first England callup - to the provisional squad, at least. Jones would have been included back in March but injury kept him out of the squad that time around.

But in a sign of just how far he's come in recent times, Jones will be in with a shot of the Euros. It was actually the 2022/23 season that saw the Scouser break into the first-team regularly, with him then cementing his position this season.

Jones's evolution as a player has been quite remarkable, too. He was a far more attacking outlet in the youth teams, often playing as a left-winger.

Under Jurgen Klopp, however, Jones fell back into midfield and has become a reliable option there as a pressing player with exceptional ball retention at times. Of course, he still has plenty of room for growth.

But what about Harvey Elliott?

There's no suggestion that Harvey Elliott will get a call-up, however. The talented youngster has ended the season in style, regularly making things happen.

Like Jones, he's also waiting for his first England callup after excelling at Under 21 level. it appears he'll have to wait until after the Euros before getting his chance - but perhaps Southgate spring a surprise.
