Arne Slot has dropped a big hint at some early Liverpool team news ahead of the EFL Cup clash with West Ham United this week.

Arne Slot has dropped a little hint at his team selection ahead of Liverpool vs West Ham United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. The Reds will kick-off their campaign in the domestic cups and we get our first taste of how the new head coach will handle them.

And it seems that Darwin Nunez is set to feature. Slot appeared to let that slip when discussing the Uruguayan’s goal against Bournemouth on Saturday - Nunez’s first of the season and first ever under the Dutchman.

Slot, talking about the goal and what he wants to see from Nunez next, let slip that he’s likely to feature against in midweek.

"He showed today a good game and maybe he can show it on Wednesday again but lets wait and see,” he said, per the Liverpool Echo.

Darwin Nunez vs West Ham

It certainly sounds, then, as though Nunez will feature against West Ham. Maybe that’s from the start, or maybe as a sub - but Slot expects some sort of opportunity for the Reds’ no.9.

But the quote also tells us another thing - that Slot isn’t going to ease-up in the EFL Cup. That’s one of the biggest decisions of the entire season, whether the manager wants to use that competition to rest his stars and hand experience to youngsters.

Now, maybe Slot would be inclined to do just that if Liverpool were up against lower-league opposition. As it is, they’re playing a Premier League side and West Ham would likely wipe the floor with the kids.

We’re expecting a pretty strong XI, then, on the back of that quote. It’s an early hint at what’s to come.
