Arne Slot has opened up on the crucial role that new first team individual development coach Aaron Briggs will play for Liverpool.

The Reds saw a host of changes to staff at the end of last season, with former manager Jurgen Klopp not the only big name leaving. The German's assistants, Peter Krawietz and Pep Lijnders, both departed, as did elite development coach Vitor Matos.

Briggs has been hired to take over Matos' responsibilities on Merseyside, with Sipke Hulshoff, Ruben Peeters and Fabian Otte among the other fresh faces in the coaching team.

Briggs comes with an impressive CV, including a significant spell at Manchester City where he rose through the ranks. His most recent post was at Wolfsburg where he acted as Niko Kovac's assistant manager.

The job title of 'first team individual development coach' is somewhat self-explanatory, but Slot has revealed what Briggs will bring to the team and what is expected of him at Liverpool.

ARNE SLOT REVEALS AARON BRIGGS RESPONSIBILITES

Speaking to LFCTV GO, Slot was asked about what Briggs' role will be within the Liverpool setup.

The Dutch coach replied: "I don't know if it's the exact right words to use in English but he is most importantly finding the bridge between the youth academy and the first team.

"[He will] be doing a lot of one-on-one meetings with the players as well and of course help us during the training sessions.

"So, he's just a member of out staff maybe a bit more focused on the players that are in between the under-21s and the first team, but he has an analyst background as well as being an assistant coach.

"We're going to use him in every department."

Briggs performed a multitude of roles during his time with Man City, including a position as senior first team performance analyst.

His move to Monaco in 2020 saw him act as an analyst, assistant coach and head of football methodology, with Briggs an experienced professional.

He is fortunate to come into a team with such an impressive academy full of talent and his job will be helping the younger players adapt to life in the first team.
