New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has shared his thoughts on his Liverpool team after their preseason tour of the USA. The boss has an idea of what's to come.

Arne Slot has now managed Liverpool for a few games - even if many of the stars weren't available to him. He took the Reds on a preseason tour of the USA, overseeing three games against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.

It was a fantastic start, too, as Liverpool won all three. The highlight, unquestionably, was a comfortable 3-0 win over United to wrap up the tour.

Not that Slot was ready to gush about his team after that one - he did see some problems in the side. But that's just a sign of how high the standards are at Anfield right now.

How did he see the tour overall, though? We now know, as Slot talked to LFCTV about the Reds' performances and what he thinks of them.

“Of course, people will naturally look towards the results we had in our friendly matches, and it is true that we enjoyed some good wins against some strong opponents, from which we can take a lot of positives for sure," said Slot.

“I saw intensity, I saw sharpness and I saw an understanding of the way we want to play – and, of course, to beat both Arsenal and Manchester United, two of our rivals in the Premier League, will never be a bad thing either.

“But I also have high standards, and while I saw lots of things I liked from the team in the USA, I am aware too that there are many areas in which we can, and must, improve and develop. The players know that too – they also have high standards – and I expect to see that improvement in the coming days and weeks, hopefully starting [on Sunday]."

The Slot era underway

Liverpool's attention now turns to two friendlies on Sunday ahead of the kickoff next weekend. They'll host both Sevilla and Las Palmas, with far more of the stars ready to perform under the new head coach.

The Reds were flying in the USA and if they can keep up that momentum on Sunday, they'll head into the new season full of confidence. That's exactly what Slot will have dreamt of when he took over from Jurgen Klopp this summer.

Everything's looking positive, then, even if Slot sees room for improvement.
