'Yes, yes definitely': Arne Slot took one real positive from Liverpool's preseason DEFEAT
Arne Slot made it clear that there was a real positive in Liverpool’s 1-0 behind-closed-doors defeat to Preston North End in preseason.
Liverpool played their first preseason match on Friday as they took on Preston North End behind closed doors. The Reds were up against a team that's deeper into their preseason here and they certainly felt that on the pitch.
Preston actually won the clash thanks to a spectacular goal by Robbie Brady. It was enough for a 1-0 win - and they got it from their only shot on goal.
Not a perfect start for Liverpool, then, but one with some positives. It wasn't a serious friendly, after all, but more an attempt to get some competitive fitness under the players.Arne Slot talked about the game afterwards and had some positive things to say. No, this wasn't the right result but he saw things he wanted to see.
Arne Slot on Liverpool 0-1 Preston
“Yes, yes, definitely [I saw my ideas out there]," Slot told LFCTV. "I’ve seen this a lot during the training sessions – maybe a bit more than today – but that also had to do with the playing style of the opponent.
“Like I said, we controlled the game completely, we only conceded one shot. The bad thing about it was that that shot went in, [it was] a great goal, though. We had some good build-up moments, had some good chances in the first half as well.
“Second half, I didn’t think we created that much, which is normal because there were a lot of young players in the team who didn’t play in their own positions sometimes as well.
“So, we couldn’t have asked for more from the boys in the first two weeks – [they have] worked really hard, tried to implement ideas and it’s not that we only bring new ideas. There are a lot of things that have been done here that were really good.
“So, like I said, a bit unlucky to lose 1-0 if you only conceded one shot.”
There's more to come from Liverpool, then, but it's encouraging that the players are taking to the new ideas quickly. The hope now will be that Slot sees it more and more as his team play friendlies over the coming month.
The team is on track to show what they can really do when the season kicks off against Ipswich. That's the important thing.
