Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot is already very impressed with one of the Reds’ returning stars. Mohamed Salah is certainly something else.

Arne Slot hasn't got the full array of stars at his disposal just yet. Many - in fact, most - are away after being involved with international tournaments.

It means the majority of the presumed first XI are yet to have their first official meeting with the new head coach. But there are a few senior players around the AXA.

Mohamed Salah is one of those, with his own international tournament having taken place at the start of the year. He's been there since day one under Slot and that's given the Dutchman a little bit of time to come to some conclusions on his new player.

And it's safe to say he's impressed.

"Mo came back strong, he was really fit," Slot told LFCTV. "That’s what I think he always has been but it’s the same this year.

"What you want from them is to set the example for the youngsters as well. For them, it’s very important – just like the other ones from the first team – that they stay fit.

"They are full of energy and that’s the most important thing at the moment; keep them fit, build it up from there and try to teach them as much as we can."

Mohamed Salah's big season

Salah is now 32 and can't have too many seasons left at the absolute elite level. But there's every expectation that he'll remain one of the best around for Slot's debut campaign at Anfield.

It's certainly positive to hear that he's returned in the impeccable condition you'd hope from him. Now we've just got to see how the Egyptian fits into Slot's plans.

It'll be a slightly different role for him this season, after all, having thrived under Jurgen Klopp as he never has anywhere else. Slot will do well to get him performing at a similar level.

But the initial signs are positive.
