Arne Slot feels Liverpool talent 'showed his quality' but could have been EVEN better

Arne Slot had some things to say about Harvey Elliott after the player’s performance against Arsenal on Thursday morning.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-1 in the latest game of their preseason tour on Thursday morning. It was a solid win for a team missing so many key players - and it allowed for some younger players to really step up.

Jarell Quansah was one of those as people raved about his goal-saving block in the first half. Harvey Elliott, though, truly stole the show with a pair of assists.

The first was a perfect through-ball to find Mohamed Salah in behind the Arsenal backline. Salah did what you'd expect - ran, composed himself, and finished under pressure.

Elliott's second assist was even better. He received the ball on the edge of the box and delicately flicked it over the top to match a brilliant run from Fabio Carvalho. The Portuguese playmaker fired it home to extend Liverpool's lead.

Elliott is enjoying life under Arne Slot, then, and the Liverpool boss had some kind words about his player after the game.

Arne Slot on Harvey Elliott

“They were two great assists but what I believe is that the team created this for him as well,” Slot said, per the Athletic.

“Playing out from the back, getting him in the right positions. Then it was up to Harvey to bring the most out of those situations and he did that today with two assists.

“If I am a bit hard on him, I think there were maybe two other situations where he could have done better but he showed his quality.”

They're comments that show a little of Slot's coaching style, too. He praises Elliott, makes it clear that he put in a great performance - but wants him to know it wasn't perfect.

And there most certainly is more to come from Elliott. If Slot can get that out of him and allow him to fulfil his potential, Liverpool will have a truly remarkable player.
