Arne Slot delivered his final message to Feyenoord fans last night ahead of his move to Liverpool. Here’s what he had to say.

It's all official now - Arne Slot will be the next 'head coach' of Liverpool. That's technically not a manager in the traditional sense but make no mistake, he's the next one in the Anfield hot seat.

Slot has earned the job on the back of some fantastic work in the Netherlands, primarily with AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord. He's taken the latter to their first league title in a long time, playing some magnificent football along the way.

And so, understandably, the fans there love him. Slot had a message for them after his final game at the weekend, now published on Feyenoord's official site.

He hopes they understand why he felt it 'difficult to ignore' the approach from Liverpool.

Arne Slot's message to Feyenoord fans

"It is certainly not an easy decision to close the door behind you at a club where you have experienced so many beautiful moments and worked successfully with so many nice people," says Slot. "But it's hard to ignore a chance to become head coach in the Premier League, at one of the largest clubs in the world, as a sportsman. I am grateful to Feyenoord that they wanted to participate in this switch.

"I enjoyed my three years at Feyenoord incredibly and felt very at home from day one, both within the club and with the supporters. When I started in Rotterdam in the summer of 2021, I was convinced that it was possible to achieve success at this beautiful club. The fact that we have reached a European final in three years and won several awards makes me more than proud."

There's a lot more to it, as you can imagine, and the whole message is there on the Feyenoord site. The sentiment is very similar to that of Jurgen Klopp's departure from Liverpool: a feeling that he's a fan for life now, and one who sees plenty of promise at the club he leaves behind.
