Alan Shearer was impressed by one Liverpool star against AC Milan. The player was one of several who shone in the Champions League.

Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners on Tuesday as they beat AC Milan at San Siro in the UEFA Champions League. It's a massive win for the Reds - and a much-needed one after their poor display against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Things got off to a very poor start, however, as a Kostas Tsimikas error allowed Milan to get an early goal. Liverpool bounced back quickly - two goals from corners had them in front by halftime.

Dominik Szoboszlai then bagged the third for Liverpool, finishing from Cody Gakpo's cross. It was a goal that capped a wonderful display from the Hungarian - something Alan Shearer was keen to point out.

"Szoboszlai has been the pick of the bunch for me," said Shearer commentary for Amazon Prime. "He's been everywhere.

"Got his goal, had a really impressive performance. His team needed him to put tackles in - he's done that - he's given them great energy, and played on the front foot. Very, very good."

Shearer loves Szoboszlai performance

Shearer would then reiterate his points after the game - in other words, he was thoroughly impressed with Szoboslzia's performance here. It was arguably the best we've seen from him this season, with the Hungarian looking as complete as he could, really.

His 35 passes highlight just how involved he was - his opposite number on the night, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, managed a mere 17 in the 70 minutes he played.

This was the Szoboszlai we all want to see, then. He was sharp, full of energy, and able to consistently link the midfield to the attack - a massive reason why Liverpool had so much more control here than they did against Forest on Saturday.

More of this, then, and Szoboszlai will be earning plaudits from all over.
