Liverpool registered an interest in Nicolo Barella this summer, but Inter swiftly indicated that the midfielder remains 'untouchable' for the time being.

According to Caught Offside, Chelsea and Newcastle United also enquired about the Italy international who has a contract with the Serie A giants until 2025.

Inter stood firm on their stance this summer, but the report states that the Nerazzurri would consider the possibility of parting with their star man in 2024, whom they value at around £77m.

Inter believe the Premier League is Barella's most likely destination, but that will depend on Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea to rekindle their interest after failing with an approach earlier this summer.

La Liga giants Real Madrid have also been mentioned as a potential destination for Barella, with the Inter reportedly more open to cashing in on him next summer.

The 26-year-old has been a consistent performer for the Nerazzurri since signing for the club in 2019 and has won three major honours at the club, including the 2020/21 Serie A title.

Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch in the summer transfer window but are expected to add to their options further over the next 12 months. Thiago Alcantara has entered the final year of his contract and is likely to be let go as a free agent next summer. In the event of the Spaniard's departure, Liverpool could well enter the market for another midfielder, making Barella an intriguing option.

Fluminese's Andre Trindade is another player who was heavily linked with the Reds in the summer, but as revealed by Anfield Watch last month, the Reds are unlikely to sign him after failing with a €30m offer.
