One of Liverpool’s summer signings has made a decision over his international future, according to reports.

Alvin Ayman joined the Reds from Wolverhampton Wanderers and was made part of the club’s academy set-up, after having already broken through at the Midlands club and their academy.

17 year-old Ayman had also featured for Wolves’ U-21 side in Premier League 2 last season as well, not to mention joining up with their first team squad for an away game against Manchester City during the 2023/24 campaign.

The youngster is eligible to play for both Egypt and England, but has not yet been called-up by either nation.

But now it appears that Ayman has committed to a decision for his international future, choosing to represent Egypt according to Egyptian journalist Onze Masr.

Ayman will presumably be playing for Egypt’s youth set-up for the foreseeable future, but it’s also entirely possible that before long he will be linking up on the international stage with Mohamed Salah and reported Liverpool transfer target Omar Marmoush.

Who is Alvin Ayman?

Ayman spent his youth career from U9 level in Bradford's academy before moving to Wolves in the summer of 2023.

He has most often played for Wolves’ youth teams as a left-sided defender, but Ayman is also capable of playing midfield roles too.

In the last international break, Ayman debuted for the U-18 side in the centre of midfield, and caught the eye during a 6-1 friendly victory over a team from Reds legend Robbie Fowler’s academy.

Back in the summer Liverpool agreed a five-year deal with Ayman to bring him to Anfield, with the reported transfer figure of £1.5m being a compensation figure, standard for academy transfers in much the same way the Premier League conducts a five-step investigation when players move between academies.

He is regarded as a very talented player with the Reds very rarely spending such huge amounts on an academy signing.

Ayman's decision to represent Egypt is a huge boost for the future of Salah's national team, and a big loss for England.
