Liverpool could reportedly attempt to sign 47-goal Real Madrid winger
Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio, according to Diario SPORT, as cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.
It has been reported that the Reds could attempt to sign the Spaniard this summer. Asensio, who's contract expires in June 2023, is hesitating on signing a new deal with Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old possesses a current market value of €40 million.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Asensio is a solid player. The forward has found the back of the net 47 times and registered 23 assists in 226 appearances for Real Madrid's first-team.
Asensio has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.85 across the 2021-22 La Liga campaign.
Former Real Madrid ace Jorge Valdano is certainly a fan of the Spaniard.
"I like that type of player who is very smart and does the simple things well. I like him because he has a lot of personality and makes very little mistakes in his decisions. He's tremendously precise and accurate," he told Marca back in 2017.
Despite the aforementioned figures/comments, we don't want to see Liverpool make a move for Asensio.
As we have stated, the winger is a solid player. However, the reality is, Asensio's statistics are not superb.
The 26-year-old would add some depth to Liverpool's attack. But, we don't see him consistently challenging the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota for a place in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI.
Even if one of the aforementioned players were to leave in the summer, we would still like to see Liverpool stay away from Asensio.
He just hasn't done enough to convince us in recent times. On another note, it will be interesting to see which players the club attempt to sign come the summer.
