"Liverpool could have got him" - Former Molde scout on Erling Haaland

Former Molde scout John Vik believes that Liverpool could have signed striker Erling Haaland.

Manchester City signed the Norway international from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of £54 million earlier this summer.

However, there was a period in Haaland's career where he was playing for Molde.

Vik said that Liverpool could have signed the 22-year-old when he was making a name for himself at the Norwegian club.

As quoted by AW on Twitter, he told The Athletic: “Liverpool could have got him. Arsenal could have got him. Everyone (scouts from English clubs) was there to watch him but they were seeing a No.9 who was tall and broad.

"(They were saying) ‘Oh, he’s going to be a target man’. I couldn’t for the life of me see why they had narrowed him down that way. I didn’t like him with his back towards the goal and, at the time, he couldn’t really head the ball.

"I liked it when he turned round, when he chased into pockets, when he ran between the lines, his movement in the box. He didn’t want to hold the ball up, he just wanted to turn and go.

"There will be a lot of clubs kicking themselves because we can all see now what he is good at.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Haaland would have been a terrific player for Liverpool had the club managed to secure his signature. The forward has scored 12 goals in eight appearances for Manchester City so far this season.

The aforementioned figures highlight that Haaland is a world-class player. The scary thing about the Norway international is that he is only 22 years of age.

With that being the case, it would be fair to assume that he is far from the finished article.

Haaland will be a problem for Liverpool in the years to come.
