Liverpool 'confident' that they don't need to sign a midfielder this summer

Paul Joyce has delivered some news that Liverpool fans do not want to hear about the summer transfer window.

It seems like the Reds are done with the current transfer window after reportedly agreeing a fee with Aberdeen to sign full-back Calvin Ramsay.

Joyce of The Times, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, has claimed that Liverpool are 'confident' they have enough depth in midfield ahead of next season.

The reporter further added that the club's strategy is not to sign stop-gaps — rather, they are prepared to wait for the right player and disregard any criticism which comes their way.

David Maddock of The Mirror, as cited by AW on Twitter, also confirmed the same news, saying that Jurgen Klopp is ready to wait until the summer of 2023 to make signing a midfielder a priority.

Maddock said that the German is a big admirer of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Anfield Watch Verdict

To say this has made some Liverpool fans feel uneasy would be a massive understatement. A large majority of the Reds fanbase have basically written next season off due to the aforementioned reports.

I agree it is the one position (midfield) that we needed to address going into next season, but I don't think it's the end of the world.

Also, I still think if another club tries to sign reported Liverpool target Bellingham from under their nose, then they'll definitely put in an offer a season early, something they did with Luis Diaz in January.

It does seem a bit bizarre that the Reds were reportedly willing to sign Tchouameni this summer, but are no longer going to sign a midfielder.

However, there are still a few months left of the window and as we know, anything can happen.
