The Reds saw off West Ham at Anfield on Wednesday night in the third round of the 2024/25 edition, coming out victorious in comprehensive fashion having first fallen behind.

A Jarell Quansah own goal gave the Hammers a first-half lead before Diogo Jota restored parity for the hosts.

Federico Chiesa provided an acrobatic assist for the Portuguese and Jota added a second after half-time.

Curtis Jones had plenty of involvement in that goal, giving a sublime assist to Portugal international Jota, who rounded off his brace.

Mohamed Salah came off the bench and added a third, following in and finishing strongly after Lukasz Fabianski made a save from Alexis Mac Allister.

Cody Gakpo, who started the game ahead of Luis Diaz, took his chance with aplomb, adding two excellent goals to leave Julen Lopetegui and his West Ham staff with much to ponder.

Diaz had earlier stated that the Reds intended to win EVERYTHING this season and they will now have the chance to progress into the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Following the conclusion of the game at Anfield, the draw took place for the fourth round with former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp and Kevin Nolan picking the balls from the bowl live on Sky Sports.

The Reds were paired with Brighton and Hove Albion in a game which will take place away from home at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton beat Wolves, 3-2, in the third round and tricky tie lies in store for Arne Slot and his Liverpool team.

The Seagulls are currently seventh in the Premier League table under new manager Fabian Hurzeler, unbeaten after five matches.

They won their opening two fixtures, handing their new boss a Manager of the Month award ahead of Slot, but are currently on a run of three drawn games in a row.

The game is scheduled to take place on the week commencing October 28, with the Reds facing a unique double-header against Brighton as they face them in Premier League action on November 2 at Anfield.
