"Liverpool called the people" - Fabrizio Romano on Jude Bellingham interest

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool recently touched base with "the people" close to Jude Bellingham.

The Reds have been linked with the Borussia Dortmund midfielder for quite some time. So, we aren't remotely surprised to hear that Liverpool have made contact with Bellingham's representatives.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, Romano told his YouTube channel the following: "A few weeks ago Liverpool called the people close to Jude Bellingham and Borussia Dortmund to enquire about the situation to understand if they had the chance to make a proposal, the answer was no. The player is untouchable this summer.

"Liverpool are thinking of Bellingham alongside many other top international clubs. I’m not saying that he will be a future Liverpool player but they have started the conversations and tried to approach Borussia Dortmund.

"It will be a crazy race similar to the (Erling) Haaland saga."

Bellingham is out of contract at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Bellingham would be a fine signing for Liverpool. The midfielder found the back of the net six times and registered 14 assists in 44 appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first-team.

Also, Bellingham is only 19 years of age. With that being the case, he is far from the finished article. Bellingham could play in Liverpool's midfield for a good decade.

The Reds do possess an ageing midfield. Both Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are in their 30s. So, there will come a time when the club will have to invest in their midfield.

It's not hard to see why Liverpool are interested in Bellingham. But, only time will tell if the England international and the Reds are to cross paths.
