Liverpool, Barcelona & Bayern Munich set to battle for 22-year-old Ajax winger

Brazilian reporter Bruno Andrade, as cited by LFC Transfer Room, has claimed that Liverpool are joined by two other clubs in the race for Ajax's Antony.

Andrade confirmed that Liverpool are monitoring Antony but he has also said that European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the Brazilian.

The Brazilian journalist, who is very reliable regarding transfer news surrounding Brazilian players, has also claimed that Ajax values Antony at £33m.

Anfield Watch Verdict

We first learned of Liverpool's interest in Antony when Graeme Bailey, in his Anfield Watch monthly column, confirmed that the Reds have been watching him since he was playing for Sao Paulo in 2020.

Despite the signing of Luis Diaz from FC Porto in January, it seems like Liverpool are after another forward player.

With the likes of Antony, Jarrod Bowen, Cody Gakpo and Raphinha all being linked with Jurgen Klopp's side in the past few weeks, it is clear that the Reds have a lot of players on their radar in case Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane were to depart after their contract ends.

With Divock Origi also set to join AC Milan at the end of the season and Takumi Minamino garnering interest from Leeds United, Liverpool are making sure that they won't be left a lack of options if multiple players leave in the upcoming transfer window.

Antony would be a great signing for the Reds and for a price of £33m, it's a bargain that a lot of other clubs will also chance their luck with.

However, the one downside to him joining Liverpool would be the game time. The Reds are blessed with some of the best wide players in world football and the Brazilian wouldn't walk into the team like he could with other teams.

Despite this potential setback, Liverpool have proven that they can attract top talent without offering them first-team football so this could be another case of that.
