Liverpool are interested in signing Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount, according to the Daily Express, as cited by Sky Sports.

The report states that the Reds have made a 'discreet offer' to the Englishman.

Mount's contract does not expire until the summer of 2024. The 23-year-old possesses a current market value of £67.50 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Mount is a very promising young player. The attacking midfielder scored 13 goals and registered 16 assists in 53 appearances for Chelsea's first-team last season.

Mount also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.07 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Former Liverpool player Joe Cole is certainly a big fan of the 23-year-old.

As quoted by The Mirror, he told BT Sport the following back in October 2021: "He does (get credit) from people in the game.

"I've never met one ex-player or one coach who doesn't appreciate him.

"He's a top, top outstanding player, he's becoming one of the most important players in the country.

"But there's an unusual level of fans - I don't know if it's rival fans or whatever - who don't quite get it.

"You want to sit them down in front of a touchscreen and educate them and show them that what this kid does is unbelievable."

Because of Mount's age, he is far from the finished article. But, we would be very surprised if Chelsea were to sell to Liverpool.

The reality is, the Blues and the Reds are rivals. So, we can't see a world where Mount joins Liverpool directly from Chelsea.

Then again, funnier things have happened in football. We would certainly welcome Mount to Anfield for the aforementioned reasons.

Only time will tell if Mount's future is at Stamford Bridge.
