Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Aberdeen full-back

Liverpool are interested in Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay, according to SPORTBILD's Christian Falk, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter.

The journalist has claimed that the Reds would like to sign the 18-year-old as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Ramsay's contract does not expire until May 2024, which means that a free transfer is off the table for the time being.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Alexander-Arnold is a superb right-back. The Scouser is a decent defender, but it is his ability going forward which makes him so special.

Alexander-Arnold has scored two goals and registered 18 assists in 39 appearances for Liverpool this season.

However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has no other right-back at his disposal. So, if Trent was to suffer a serious injury, Liverpool would be in some trouble.

One could argue that Neco Williams is the club's reserve right-back. But, the Wales international is currently out on loan at Fulham and is reportedly looking to depart Liverpool on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Therefore, we would not be against Liverpool making a move for Ramsay. The youngster is having a decent campaign offensively for Aberdeen.

Ramsay has found the back of the net once and secured five assists in 22 Scottish Premiership appearances.

Comments from former Aberdeen caretaker manager Paul Sheerin further highlight that the 18-year-old is a promising player.

"He loves going forward but maybe he needs to tighten up defensively at times – but all young players do as they learn the game," he said, as quoted by Sports Mole.

"He's a confident lad and loves getting on the ball and putting crosses into the box."

We do hope that Liverpool are genuinely interested in signing Ramsay. He appears to be a player on the rise.

Only time will tell if the Reds are to make a move for Ramsay.
