Alisson reveals MAJOR update on Liverpool future

A senior Liverpool star has reiterated his desire to stay at Anfield, as speculation surrounding his future and several team-mates continues.

While fans anxiously await even the hint of new contracts for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk, their goalkeeping hero Alisson Becker has told the BBC's Football Daily podcast that he is dedicated to the cause.

Furthermore, the Brazil international is determined to play a leading role in the transition from Jurgen Klopp's trophy-laden tenure to Arne Slot's exciting arrival at the helm.

"I am committed to this club 100% and I think that involves now being part of the leadership group," said Alisson, who shaved off his trademark beard before helping Liverpool to beat Wolves on his return from injury.

"Me, Virgil, Robbo [Andy Robertson], Trent, Mo... Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] now is someone who is bringing his experience now as well.

"He's young but he has achieved so many things already and that brings him to a standard of good leadership, the way he thinks as well helps a lot.

"We have a lot of young players, new players coming in, old players going out, and a completely new staff.

"The challenge for us was taking the good things, keeping the good things that we had here already, and passing these things to the staff and to the players who were coming in. Embracing the good stuff that the new staff are bringing to us as well.

"That was a big challenge for this leadership group and I really believe we are doing quite well."

Alisson was recently linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League and faces increased competition for his position with Giorgi Mamardashvili arriving next summer.

THEY NEED TO BE THE NEW ALISSON AND VIRGIL

Alisson acknowledges that two of the senior professionals who left the club in the summer of 2023, Jordan Henderson and James Milner, were inspirational figures, vocal around the training ground and always willing to impart their wisdom to the club's Academy graduates.

"We're going to the place that Millie and Hendo were occupying," said the Brazilian.

"We are always trying to say to the young players that they need to step up as well. They now need to be the new Alisson Becker, the new Virgil van Dijk."

Shedding more light on the leadership dynamic, Alisson insisted: "Nobody tries here to do their own things. I don't try to be the main leader. Virgil, even if he is the captain, doesn't try to be the main leader. He is sometimes, I am sometimes, Robbo is sometimes, Mo is sometimes.

"We are sharing the responsibility so it makes everything easier. We don't do anything alone, we work as a team and here we have a great environment and I think that means a lot as well.

"It comes a lot from what the club is. This club is special. The people who work inside it are special and they give us such a good environment, so we just focus on playing our football and doing our best."
