Liverpool 3-1 West Ham: Man of the Match

Liverpool continued their flying start to the season with a 3-1 win against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

It was all square at the break, after Mohamed Salah's penalty was cancelled out by a headed effort from Jarred Bowen - a man who has been touted as a potential successor to Salah on Liverpool's right wing.

However, second-half goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota sealed the three points for the Reds, making it six wins on the bounce for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Now, to the issue of Man of the Match.

We asked fans who they thought was the star of the show against the Hammers. The verdict has been far from unanimous.

As of writing, Alexis Mac Allister and Darwin Nunez are tussling it out for the accolade, with the Mac Allister currently edging his South American colleague out by just half a percent.

Mac Allister had a fantastic outing in the 'number six' role - a much improved performance after struggling in the position against Wolves.

The 24-year-old shut down several West Ham attacks but was also able to drive forward, delightfully setting up Liverpool's second goal with a exquisite dinked pass.

Speaking of Liverpool's second goal, Nunez was similarly superb.

Liverpool's number nine was a nuisance all game, with his runs in behind a constant threat to the West Ham defence.

He missed a guilt-edged opportunity while the game was level, but made amends soon after with a delicate volley to restore Liverpool's advantage.

Nunez put in a top shift against the Hammers, and was deserving of his standing ovation upon being substituted.

Honourable mentions include the other two nominees in Joel Matip and Luis Diaz, both of whom put in solid performances but were slightly overshadowed by the goal contributions of Nunez and Mac Allister.

Dominik Szoboszlai was also sounded out as a deserving candidate in the comments - just a quality outing yet again from the Hungarian, no qualms from us.

There's still time to have your say - vote for your Man of the Match in our poll below!
