Kylian Mbappe offered 'pyramids of Egypt' – where Liverpool stand
Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to offer Kylian Mbappe a salary no other club can compete with in order to keep him at the club, amid interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool.
The 25-year-old superstar is now into the final six months of his PSG deal and, as such, can discuss terms with foreign suitors over a summer deal, should he wish.
Real Madrid have long been seen as the frontrunners to land Mbappe if and when he finally leaves France, though Liverpool are regularly mentioned as another option.
One report recently claimed the former Monaco star 'really, really likes' the Reds, while another revealed Liverpool have never broken contact with the forward's entourage, boosting faint hopes of an audacious summer move.
The finances involved in any deal – even a 'free' transfer – would be astronomical, however.
Real Madrid were reportedly willing to table an offer of €30m (£25.5m) a year in salary, plus a huge signing on bonus of around €100m (£86m), while other reports claim the figure Mbappe is seeking from his next club is even higher still.
For context, Mohamed Salah is Liverpool all-time highest earner on around £18m a year in basic pre-tax salary.
Meanwhile, PSG have yet to give up hope of retaining their star asset.
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently outlined his desire to keep Mbappe in the French capital, saying: "For sure I want Mbappe to stay. For me he is the best in the world and for me the best club for Kylian is Paris.
"He is the centre of the project today. It's normal to ask about him. For me he is the best in the world, I have a very good relationship with him. Not only as a player, as a person."
Meanwhile, According to RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo, Mbappe has been offered an 'unmatchable' deal worth €100m a year if he renews his contract.
Riolo said: "On the one hand, we have an offer for him to extend, which is ancient Rome, ancient Greece, and the pyramids of Egypt given to a player. Something never seen before which will far exceed €100m per season. So something that no club will ever be able to match. What is being offered to Mbappe by PSG is incredible.
"It will be with advantages for the brother, for the family, for everyone… the player agency that the mother wants to set up. Honestly, it’s incredible stuff. On the other side, we have something which is, I was going to say normal, to say that it’s normal when we talk about Real… So it’s a normal salary for football stars, we’re going to talk about €30m and maybe a little more. And he’s not the king of the club. Basically, we bring him back down to Earth.
"Mbappe is in the middle and he has to choose between that."
Liverpool stance on Mbappe
Anfield Watch understands that while Liverpool and Mbappe have flirted over the years, the Reds would only entertain a move for the man who finished third in the 2023 Ballon d'Or rankings in the event that top earner Salah were to leave the club in the summer. However, with the 31-year-old Egyptian now leaning towards a contract renewal, despite interest from Saudi Arabia, the possibility of competing for Mbappe appears increasingly remote with the finances of mega-money deal simply not feasible.
