Jurgen Klopp's H2H record against Mikel Arteta

Liverpool travel to Arsenal this Sunday in the most eye-catching of the FA Cup third round ties.

The fixture comes just over two weeks on from the Reds' 1-1 draw against the Gunners in the Premier League before Christmas, with the two sides locked in a title race this season.

That encounter was marked by a Mohamed Salah wonder goal and controversy over the failure to award a penalty after Martin Odegaard handled the ball inside the box.

However, Liverpool vs Arsenal is a fixture that usually brings plenty in the way of drama.

Sparks have flown in this fixture in recent years, even on the touchline. Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta have butted heads on the sidelines before, but it's the Liverpool boss who has enjoyed greater success in this fixture.

Here is Jurgen Klopp's head-to-head record against Mikel Arteta.

Sunday's meeting between the two sides will be the 241st, the Reds boasting a marginally superior record in this fixture. Liverpool have won 94, drawn 64 and lost 82 of their clashes with the Gunners, dating all the way back to 1893.

In recent history, Liverpool have also been largely dominant, losing just two of their previous ten clashes with Arsenal.

At Anfield, the Reds haven't lost over 90 minutes to Arsenal since a 2-0 Premier League defeat back in 2012 – extending that run with the 1-1 draw before Christmas.

Last season wasn't Liverpool's strongest against the Gunners, failing to win either league encounter. There was a 3-2 defeat at the Emirates early in the campaign and a thrilling 2-2 comeback draw on Merseyside in which Salah also missed a penalty.

The Reds last took on the Gunners outside the Premier League in the League Cup semi-final back in January of 2022, with Klopp's side winning 2-0 over the two legs.

There are only two clubs - Bayern Munch (31) and Manchester City (26) - that Jurgen Klopp has met more frequently than Arsenal. The German has clashed with the Gunners on 26 occasions, although five of them did come in the Champions League during his time at Borussia Dortmund.

Out of those 26 clashes, Klopp has won 12, drawn seven and lost seven, although three of those defeats came during his days in Germany.

As the Liverpool boss, Klopp has 11 victories, six draws and just four defeats from 21 meetings with the Gunners, only two of those losses coming in 90 minutes.

The former Mainz boss' biggest victory against Arsenal came in a 5-1 victory back in December 2018, while he has beaten them 4-0 on two occasions.

Klopp boasts a fairly strong record against Arteta in their 11 previous battles, winning five, drawing two and losing four against the Spaniard.

Despite being defeated in three of his first four meetings with Arteta, the 56-year-old has won four of his last seven, including 4-0 and 3-0 victories in 2021.

Klopp's Liverpool have scored 20 goals against Arteta's Arsenal, while conceding just nine. The Reds kept six consecutive clean sheets against the Gunners between October 2020 and March 2022.

Hopefully, Klopp can pick up a first victory since the end of the 2021/22 season against Arteta this Sunday.
