Jurgen Klopp cup final record in the 19 he's managed

Jurgen Klopp doesn't have the best cup final record but the Liverpool boss has certainly managed a lot over his career. The German has picked up trophies in several competitions.

Liverpool are heading back to a cup final after squeezing past Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The Reds will now face Chelsea at Wembley for the first major silverware of the English football season.

Jurgen Klopp will also reach a milestone in his career. This will be the 20th final of his career across nine competitions and two different clubs - Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.

But how is his record in the 19 he's managed thus far?

Klopp actually holds a negative record in his career across finals - but only just. Nine wins, 10 defeats in the 19 appearances with silverware on the line.

Though, it's debatable what counts as a 'final'. That includes the Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and DFL Super Cup - 'finals' you can only compete in if you've already won a trophy.

So let's start with his Dortmund record. Klopp lost the DFL Super Cup to Schalke 04 back in 2011 and then lost it again the following year to Bayern Munich. He did win a trophy in between, however - the Pokal in 2012.

2013 saw Klopp reach the Champions League final for the first time in his career but he suffered a heartbreaking defeat at Wembley to Bayern. He'd also lose the Pokal final in back-to-back years following that, 2014 and 2015.

Klopp did pick up two more trophies, though - the DFL Super Cup in 2013 and 2014. Though, Dortmund did only qualify for those finals as Bundesliga runners-up. Bayern had swept up domestically in both years, making Klopp's team something of a defaul entrant.

Still, a trophy's a trophy.

Klopp's debut half-campaign with Liverpool immediately led to two finals. They reached the 2016 EFL Cup final and the 2016 Europa League final but fell short in both. Manchester City beat them on penalties in the former, while Sevilla performed a second-half turnaround to win the latter.

The next final was another defeat, too. Liverpool made their way to the Champions League final in 2018 but a bizarre game led to a Real Madrid win. They'd correct things the following year, however.

Liverpool and Klopp finally won the Champions League in 2019, beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final. That victory placed them in both the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup in 2019 - competitions they also won.

Next was Klopp's first attempt at the Community Shield, coming in 2020 as a result of the Premier League title win. They faced Arsenal but lost the game on penalties.

And then came 2022. Klopp led Liverpool to four finals that year, with the Reds winning three. First was the EFL Cup against Chelsea, then the FA Cup against Chelsea before finally beating Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Unfortunately, Liverpool lost the big one against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
