Jurgen Klopp reveals talk with Michael Edwards

Jurgen Klopp had talks with Michael Edwards at Liverpool recently. The boss explained what they talked about.

Jurgen Klopp was asked the obvious question right away in his Thursday press conference - what does he think of Michael Edwards returning to Liverpool? The Reds' former sporting director will take up a position at FSG in the summer, overseeing football.

Klopp went one further than just giving his impression, though. He revealed there has been a conversation with Edwards about the state of Liverpool right now.

"I'm really happy [he's back]," said Klopp. "I've said a few times that I want to see the club in the best possible place after I left, so everything I can do I will do while I'm here and after that, other people will have to do it.

"I think it's a top solution, honestly - a top solution. Our conversation was obviously great - a lot of things about what I think about different things, players, stuff like this, the situation at the club because I was in all the time while he was not. So what did change, what might have to change - this kind of thing.

"A really good talk and like I said, I think it's top news for the club."

Jurgen Klopp on Michael Edwards

Klopp was asked - repeatedly, in fact - whether Edwards had tried to persuade him to reverse his decision to leave Liverpool this summer. He made it very clear, however, that Edwards 'wasn't dumb' and thus there was no attempt.

But it should be fantastic for every Liverpool fan to hear these comments from Klopp. He wants the club to thrive once he's gone and Edwards arriving quite plainly moves things in the right direction.

There's a lot of faith there - an awful lot - and Klopp makes it sound as though Liverpool couldn't have done any better here. The future feels bright, with or without the boss.
