Alexis Mac Allister's substitution at half time of Liverpool's pre-season defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday was a precautionary one, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

The Argentine midfielder took a heavy challenge late in the first half and was seen holding his knee as he received treatment on the knock.

The 24-year-old was accompanied by Liverpool's medical staff as he limped of the pitch at the whistle and didn't return for the second half.

Mac Allister was one of three players replaced at the break, along with Diogo Jota and Joel Matip, giving rise to concerns that he might've picked up an injury.

However, speaking directly after the game, Jurgen Klopp calmed any fears over Mac Allister's fitness, telling LFCTV that "nobody got injured" and that the £35m signing's substitution was a precautionary one.

Addressing what happened with Mac Allister, Klopp said: "Yeah, knee on knee. He could have played on.

"So firstly I got the information that it's too painful, so that was then clear that we will change. There's no need to push him through.

"When I spoke afterwards, he said, 'No, no, I would have been fine.' But we didn't want to go [with] any risks. It's just knee on knee, bruise, that's it. It was fine."

Liverpool's pre-season concludes with a fixture against Darmstadt at Deepdale on Monday, 7 August, while the Premier League campaign kicks off away at Chelsea on 13 August.
