Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on midfielder Naby Keita

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Reds midfielder Naby Keita.

The Guinea international suffered a potential hamstring injury against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield last weekend.

Keita was substituted 19 minutes into the Premier League fixture.

Liverpool will welcome Atletico Madrid to Anfield on Wednesday night. However, Klopp has confirmed that Keita is unlikely to play in the Champions League group stage clash.

“He told me, he showed me [the] hamstring. So, I don’t know, we will see; obviously tomorrow [or] the day after tomorrow he will have a scan and then we will know,” Klopp told the club's official website after Saturday's clash against Brighton.

“But if somebody feels the hamstring, it would be the first time that he is ready for the next game. So, I can’t see that.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Keita has had a solid start to the 2021-22 campaign. The midfielder has scored three goals and registered one assist in 10 appearances for Liverpool. Keita is also averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.03 in the early stages of the new season.

Therefore, it is a shame that the Guinea international has picked up an injury. Since arriving at Liverpool from RB Leipzig back in the summer of 2018, Keita has picked up a number of injuries.

The 26-year-old has only made 86 appearances for Liverpool's first-team as a result. Therefore, Keita has not been able to live up to his €60 million transfer fee.

Hopefully the midfielder has a bit more luck with his body going forward. We never like to see any Red sitting on the sidelines.
