Jurgen Klopp provides an injury update on Roberto Firmino

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Reds forward Roberto Firmino.

The Brazil international was not involved in the club's Premier League fixture against Manchester United at Anfield last night.

However, Klopp has revealed that he is hopeful Firmino will be able to play against Everton at home on Sunday.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the German told LiverpoolFC.com the following: "Bobby was not involved because in the very last situation of the (Manchester) City game (last weekend) he got something on his foot. It's not really bad.

"We hope (that he can play against Everton) so. Actually, we were a bit worried but the scan was fine. But it's still very painful and that's why there was no chance (to play against Manchester United)."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Firmino has been an excellent player for Liverpool. The Reds signed the forward from Hoffenheim for a transfer fee of £36.90 million back in the summer of 2015.

Since then, Firmino has scored 98 goals and registered 73 assists in 323 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

In the past, Reds forward Sadio Mane has explained why the 30-year-old is so important to the club.

"I have always said - and I will say it again - that without Firmino we wouldn't be the same," the Senegal international said back in November 2021, as quoted by LFC Transfer Room.

"In the five years I have been playing with him you can see how many passes and how many assists he has provided.

“Then you can look at his defensive work for us too and his work between the lines to make the space for us to make everything easier. So I think he is unbelievable.

“We know ourselves how good Bobby is and how important he is for us but it's sometimes only after a hat-trick that more people will talk. But certainly within the squad we know that he is one of the best players in the world."

Firmino has played well so far this season. He has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.92 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Therefore, it is good to hear that the forward has not picked up a serious injury.
