Jurgen Klopp provides an injury update on Roberto Firmino ahead of the Aston Villa game

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Roberto Firmino is close to full fitness ahead of Tuesday's game against Aston Villa

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Klopp confirmed that Firmino is very close to being fully fit.

"Bobby Firmino has trained so it is a decision for tomorrow," said Klopp. "He is getting closer and closer and closer and hopefully he can be involved."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Firmino has been so important for Liverpool over the Klopp era. Our attack has been based around the Brazilian dropping deep and creating space for our wide forwards.

However, in recent years, Bobby has started to play more of a backseat role, especially this season. Despite that, Klopp is still full of praise for his number nine every time he plays.

Speaking about Firmino earlier this season, as cited by LFC Transfer Room, Klopp said that people will 'write books' about how Firmino revolutionised the false nine role.

"Mo [Salah] gets a lot of attention and rightly so but Firmino was outstanding. For people with football knowledge, people will write books about how he interprets the false 9," said Klopp.

"We don't say he invented it but it looks like that at times. It was insane."

This is probably going to be Firmino's last season where he is heavily involved. With Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi reportedly set to leave at the end of the season, we could see the Brazilian take up their spot on the bench.

Luis Diaz's introduction to the first team has also knocked Bobby down the pecking order. It's also been rumoured that the Reds are set to sign another forward player this summer, meaning even less game time for Firmino.

Whatever happens in the future, Firmino is a Liverpool legend and his name will forever be written in the history books of this club.
