Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given his honest opinion on Reds midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The club signed the Spaniard from Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of €22 million back in the summer of 2020.

However, since then, Thiago has struggled to stay on the park. The 30-year-old has only made 49 appearances for Liverpool's first-team as a result of injuries.

Despite that being the case, Klopp has made it clear that he has not lost faith in Thiago.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the 54-year-old said the following during his most recent press conference: "He’s a very, very good player. We were never in doubt about that! His skillset is insane but it’s all about staying fit and that’s what we are working on together. "I think last season in the last eight or nine games I think he played pretty consistently all the games if I’m right? Which as I remember, it was a pretty good spell as well. I think we all agree – Thiago agrees – that there were moments when he struggled injury wise. "That’s how it is. Then coming back, even with his quality, you cannot get rhythm all the time immediately. You get rhythm, but not immediately always and that’s very helpful if you can stay fit for a longer period. "It’s not so important whether you play the first 60, the last 30 or the 45 or whatever because it’s then we have to try and find the right intensity for him and even when we worked now longer together, obviously it’s not for ages. "It’s not that we know absolutely everything and that’s why we try to –without keeping him outside when he’s all ready to play - we just try to do the right things and that’s worked out now the last few games."

Anfield Watch Verdict

There is no denying that when Thiago is fit and firing, he is a world-class midfielder.

There is a reason why the Spaniard has played for the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

As you can see in the footage below, Thiago has the ability to dictate the tempo of a football match. The 30-year-old uses the ball so well. He is a calm man out on the football pitch.

Therefore, hopefully Thiago can stay fit for the remainder of the season.
