Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson Becker suffered a 'serious' hamstring injury. The Liverpool goalkeeper will now miss weeks.

Alisson Becker has suffered a 'serious' hamstring injury, Jurgen Klopp confirmed this week. The Liverpool goalkeeper will not play for the foreseeable future, though the boss says it shouldn't be season-ending.

"There is no real timescale on it, but it is a proper muscle injury," said Klopp. "Different players recover differently - that is it pretty much. It is not a short one.

"It is not that he will be in contention for next week or something like that. We have to wait a few more weeks, definitely, for him. He is working in the gym, not on the pitch, it is a rather serious one but not a season-ending injury."

Of course, it's positive news that Alisson is still able to do gym work and that this won't end his season. But it comes at a terrible time for Liverpool who desperately need their senior stars back.

Especially as they're entering an incredibly difficult period. Liverpool face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League later today and then their Europa League campaign restarts in midweek.

Next weekend is arguably the biggest game of the season as the Reds host Manchester City. A week after that, it's Manchester United away in the FA Cup - with the second leg against Sparta Prague sandwiched between the two.

The FA Cup clash is the last fixture before the international break, which offers a golden opportunity for Alisson to recover. It doesn't appear we'll see the Brazilian before that, however.

This is unquestionably an enormous blow for Liverpool and one that could rock them. Alisson hasn't played in any of the last four games because of a virus followed by this hamstring problem. That number could now extend to around 10.
