Joao Neves one of three watched by Liverpool in dramatic win
Joao Neves was one of three players watched by Liverpool in Benfica's dramatic 2-1 win over Sporting at the weekend.
This comes from 90min. They claim that Liverpool watched Joao Neves on Sunday as his Benfica side beat Sporting 2-1 - and this was a dramatic one.
Sporting led from 54 minutes but two stoppage-time strikes won the game for Benfica. Notably, Neves got the first of those in a performance that certainly impressed watching scouts.
This was a game that featured a quite ridiculous 61 tackles, with Neves making six of those. Impressively, he only attempted six, winning the lot of them. The young midfielder also picked up a game-high four interceptions, made a game-high four dribbles, and completed a game-high 45 passes (and did the latter at a 90 per cent success rate).
It was an incredible audition, in other words - not that Liverpool were the only side watching. 90min claim Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal also had scouts at the game.
And in all likelihood, those clubs did have scouts at this one. It's a massive game and the market in Portugal is thriving right now - Liverpool picked up both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from there in recent years.
The Reds are after a new midfielder, though, and this performance puts Neves right in their crosshairs. Though, they're also looking for a new centre-back.
That's notable because Goncalo Inacio and Antonio Silva have both been linked in recent times. They were on show here, too, though the former was sent off for two yellows after only 51 minutes. Not exactly the best way to ingratiate yourself to watching scouts.
Whether Liverpool move for any of these players is yet to be seen but there's little doubt that Neves will be getting more eyes on him after this. He may well be one to watch for in 2024.
