Jamie Carragher sets his price tag for Mohamed Salah

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has insisted it's too late in the transfer window for the Reds to consider selling Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian is the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad, with some reports claiming that Fabinho's new club want to make Liverpool's record Premier League goalscorer the highest paid footballer in the world.

While Salah's own agent has dismissed the transfer talk and Jurgen Klopp recently confirmed that Liverpool have received no bid and aren't contemplating a sale, the rumours keep on coming.

Carragher, meanwhile, claimed that the Saudi interest has probably come too late for Liverpool to entertain Salah's exit.

While Saudi Arabia's transfer deadline is not until 20 September, Premier League clubs only have until Friday to complete their incoming deals, making finding a replacement for Salah next to impossible.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Liverpool's 2-1 win over Newcastle, Carragher speculated that it would take a 'crazy figure' for the Reds to consider a sale.

"I think it’d have to be over £150m," the former defender said. "I’m not saying he’s worth that right now at his age but I don’t think £100m; you’re not replacing Mo Salah for £100m.

"If they offered a crazy figure but as I said it is so late in the window. If it was earlier – maybe they might think about it because that is the model that they’ve had in the past but I don’t think Mo Salah is going anywhere."

Carragher also predicted that 31-year-old Salah's ambition might mean he still has years left to play at Liverpool, despite his current contract ending in 2025.

"I don’t think Mo Salah will go," he said. "One because it’s so late in the window. I don’t necessarily thing Mo Salah will want to go and what I mean by that is that Salah will be a little bit like Ronaldo.

"I can see Mo Salah playing until he’s in his late 30s so I think he might think, 'I’ve got another three or four years.'

"He’s got another two years on his contract, so I don’t know if he’ll stay after that but he’ll want to score as many goals as he can, win the biggest honours, break records.

"And I think there’s time for him to go to an MLS, Saudi Arabia, maybe somewhere else in the future in his late 30s because I think he looks after himself so well. He’s such a professional and I think there’s still a lot more years in Mo Salah right now."
