"It’s not about me" - Harvey Elliott after clash against Newcastle United

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has given his thoughts on his performance against Newcastle United.

The Reds welcomed the Magpies to Anfield last night. Jurgen Klopp's team secured a 2-1 victory over Eddie Howe's side.

Elliott was very good against Newcastle. The 19-year-old registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.92 for his 90-minute performance against the Magpies.

However, Elliott remained humble post-game.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told The Athletic the following: “I want to give my all for Liverpool and that means running every game until I can’t run anymore. I’ll do whatever it takes. Liverpool is my club and there’s nothing more exciting I could be doing.

“I’m thankful to the gaffer for his kind words. It’s nice to hear and it means a lot but all the credit tonight should go to Fabio (Carvalho). It’s not about me.

“I played my part but he was the match-winner. Fabio came up with the goods. For me he was the best player out there because he won us the game.

“Obviously with what happened last season with my injury, I just want to grow as a player. I’m a year older, hopefully a year wiser.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Elliott's attitude is absolutely superb. The midfielder is a talented footballer.

There is a reason why Elliott is in and around Klopp's starting XI at the age of 19.

But, the Englishman's comments highlight that he is never going to take anything for granted. Elliott wants to improve as a footballer and as a person.

We wish the youngster all the best for the remainder of the season. On another note, Liverpool will face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Hopefully the Reds can secure another three points. Only time will tell if that is to be the case.
