"It’s a Shankly" - Gary Neville compares Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool legends

Gary Neville has compared Liverpool's current manager Jurgen Klopp to some of the greatest managers the club has ever had.

Speaking on his podcast after Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 4-0, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the former Manchester United player said that what Klopp is doing currently is the same as what Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly & Joe Fagan achieved in the 70s and 80s.

"What Klopp’s doing here, it’s a Shankly, it’s a Paisley, it’s a Fagan. It’s six or seven years of excellence we’re talking about here. He does need to win two or three trophies to cement that but I think he will this season."

Jamie Carragher also chimed in on the conversation by saying Klopp's side is one of the greatest Liverpool teams of all time.

"This is one of the greatest Liverpool teams of all time, there’s no doubt about that. Jurgen Klopp’s actual win ratio is higher than any other manager in the club’s history.

"So this isn’t just a special team right now, in Liverpool’s history this team is right up there. And if it did something really, really special this season it could actually go to the top."

Anfield Watch Verdict

After having Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers, who'd have thought that Klopp would become one of the best Liverpool managers ever.

His connection to the club, fans and city are so reminiscent of when Shankly took over as manager. The German is adored by the fanbase and whenever he decides to stop managing Liverpool it's going to be a very sad day on Merseyside.

Hopefully, it doesn't come to that and he realises that his work with Liverpool is not over yet.

If Klopp was to sign a 10-year contract tomorrow, you wouldn't find a serious Liverpool fan who isn't ecstatic about it.

We can dream right!
