“It's a nightmare start" - Jamie Carragher on Darwin Nunez incident

Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher has touched on Darwin Nunez's moment of madness against Crystal Palace at Anfield last night.

The Reds striker was shown a straight red card for headbutting Eagles defender Joachim Andersen.

As a result, Nunez is set to miss Premier League fixtures against Manchester United, Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

Carragher has said the following about the incident.

“It's a nightmare start for him as a player at Liverpool, it's a nightmare for Jurgen Klopp as he is trying to integrate him into a new team," he told Sky Sports, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

“The issue wasn't tonight, the problem is how long it will be until he is back in the team as he'll likely only be on the bench after the suspension to get up to speed so it could be five or six weeks until we see him back in the Liverpool starting XI.

“He's trying to argue he hasn't done anything, trying to convince his team-mates and the crowd. As he walks away, he's realising what he's done. He'll be devastated in the dressing room: he's let his team and the fans down.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Nunez really let his team down last night. Liverpool only managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

Had Nunez kept his cool, the Reds could have secured a victory. But, the forward is only 23 years of age.

So, Nunez will learn from his mistake. He will be missed over the next few games.

Nunez has had a solid start to life as a Liverpool player. The Uruguay international has scored two goals and registered one assist in three appearances.

However, Nunez will have to watch from the sidelines for the next couple of weeks.
