"It was a fantastic season" - Jordan Henderson reflects on the 2021-22 campaign

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has reflected on the 2021-22 campaign.

The Reds competed for the quadruple last season. However, Jurgen Klopp's side only managed to win the domestic double.

With that being the case, Henderson believes the 2021-22 campaign was a successful one for the club.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told The Athletic the following: “You are always motivated to win the biggest trophies. We want to be successful. We managed to win two last year. It didn’t end the way we would have liked in the other two (Premier League and Champions League) but we pushed all the way and gave everything.

“We have had disappointments in the past and we didn’t have hangovers. We have always reacted in the right way. We still won two trophies last year so it’s not all negative. It was a fantastic season.

“Yes, it didn’t end the way we would have liked but that’s football, that’s life, you get on with it and react in the right way and we just want to go again and perform. I never think it will be just us and (Manchester) City.

“You look at Chelsea, they are strengthening, (Manchester) United will strengthen, (Tottenham) Spurs have done so quite a lot so far. We have bought some new players in and hopefully, they can help us going forward and freshen things up.

“To perform to the levels we are capable of it comes down to hard work and togetherness and that starts right now in pre-season.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Henderson's take. The reality is, Liverpool claimed some silverware last season and a lot of other teams did not.

So, we have to take the positives from the 2021-22 campaign. Hopefully Klopp's side can compete on all fronts again this season.

There is nothing better than watching your team remain relevant for an entire campaign. Trophies are what sides are judged on these days.

The only issue Liverpool have is that they are up against a world-class team in Manchester City. The Citizens have also added goal machine Erling Haaland to their attack.

So, Pep Guardiola's team will be hard to beat again.
