"It hasn’t necessarily worked out for him at Liverpool" - John Barnes on first-team player

Former Red John Barnes has recently been talking about Naby Keita's future.

The midfielder has recently been linked with a move away from Anfield.

Barnes believes that if Keita does leave Anfield in the near future, Liverpool would be able to move on without him.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Barnes told The Echo the following: "It hasn’t necessarily worked out for him at Liverpool, so if he leaves it won’t hurt the first team too much."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Barnes' take. There is no denying that Keita does possess talent. Footage of midfielder backs up the aforementioned argument.

However, there is no denying that we have not seen the best of Keita during his time at Anfield and the Reds have still won major trophies.

The Guinea international has only made 92 appearances in his four years at the club. Injuries have just ultimately not allowed Keita to stay on the park and find top form.

We would like to see Liverpool pursue with Keita, as he is a talented player. But, perhaps the individual does need a fresh start.
