Former Liverpool full-back Alberto Moreno has spoken about the Anfield atmosphere on a European night.
The Spaniard, who played for the Reds between 2014-19, now represents Villarreal. The La Liga side will face Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals. The first leg is taking place on Merseyside tonight.
With that being the case, Moreno was asked about the atmosphere inside Anfield on a big European night during a recent interview.
The 29-year-old told Marca the following: "Those teams (we beat to reach the semi-finals), Juventus, Bayern, without forgetting (Manchester) United in the group stage or Atalanta are spectacular teams at European level. Liverpool is one more.
"I have felt and experienced what Liverpool is like and playing at Anfield and that is amazing.
"Because when the fans and the players come together it is very difficult to win there. But it was also very difficult to eliminate Juventus and Bayern and look where we are, in the Champions League semi-finals."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with Moreno's take. The atmosphere inside Anfield when there is a big European fixture taking place is something else. There is a reason why the Liverpool supporters are known as the 12th man.
The opposition are on the back foot before the ball has even been kicked.
Therefore, we do expect the atmosphere inside Anfield to be quite hostile tonight. There is a Champions League semi-final on the line after all.
On another note, Moreno will not feature against Liverpool tonight. The full-back is recovering from a knee injury.
It is a shame to see the full-back sitting on the sidelines. We never want to see any current or former Red unavailable to play because of an injury.
We wish Moreno all the best with his recovery.
